What is The Swirling Spoon? | A food blog for people who like to eat tasty food! Here you’ll find recipes for mostly vegetarian fare and comfort foods, with a generous side of baking and desserts. I am lucky to live in a part of the world where fresh produce of all kinds is abundant all year round, and I try to make the most of it. I have a penchant for peanut butter, and I always have flour on my clothes because I still haven’t bought myself a kitchen apron.

Who keeps this wonderful blog? | ME! I’m Hannah. I live in a
tiny brick apartment rambling house in Brisbane Melbourne, Australia with my mountain-man-mathematician boyfriend fiance husband, Tony, henceforth known as Maths dude. He is pretty nerdy, helpful at eating leftover cookies, and lets me make a total mess in the kitchen pretty much every day. Maths dude and I met at the local student pub in 2007 when I asked him to pour some of his beer into my empty wine glass, and we have been kicking around together ever since.
When I’m not blogging, you can find me: tending to and nurturing my sourdough starter (always in search of the perfect loaf), reading everything, planning the next travel adventure, vaguing out on Instagram, or making another coffee. At the moment, I am studying a Masters in Speech Pathology full-time. I also have the pretty sweet job of typing court transcripts in my pyjamas, and I have previously worked in cafes, a bookshop, and teaching English to adults. I love learning languages, and I have a BA in French and Spanish and speak a little Portuguese (my favourite language).
I’m a half-Kiwi, half-British, weird hybrid Australian, and I’m convinced my soul belongs either on the remote, wild West Coast of South Island, NZ, or nestled somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales. With lots of dogs and chickens, of course.
